A View from my world #17

This week's theme: Family

For the last couple years, I have looked at the roster of plays being offered at the Stratford Festival.  This year I saw that they were running the musical Fiddler on the Roof.  Since it is one of my dad’s favourites and my mom loves musicals, I decided to wrangle my sister E into helping me take them to see it.  Fortunately E & I are still under 30 and could get special tickets for a great price.  Not only could we get the special deal for ourselves, but we could each take a “date” with us.  If you have never seen a Stratford musical, you are missing out on an amazing performance.  They have top-notch actors, set designers, musicians, etc.  After laughing, clapping, and crying my way through the musical, I left the theatre excited for the next time I could participate in something like this.

Hooray!  That was great.

A day at my work = Crazy Hair

Getting ready for crazy hair!
This summer, I am challenging the children at the library where I work to read as much as possible.  To assist with that goal, I made up a giant map of the world (to go along with our theme of Go!) and divided into lots of blocks.  The children colour in one block for each hour they spend reading.  It is great to see the chart getting filled in box by box (sometimes a teen will come in and fill in a whole line at a time!).  My summer student assistant and I promised the children that if they read half way up the chart (almost 800 hours of reading) we would wear our hair in crazy pigtails all day.  Well, on July 30th, they passed that goal and on July 31st, we came to work with our hair sticking out at odd angles.  I felt really silly as I walked to work with my hair sticking out, but once I got there… I thought it was great!  We even have our picture in the local newspaper this week.  And the kids are reading like crazy … we have just over one more week to record the reading and I think we will make it to the top of the map which means I will likely be wearing my outfit backwards very soon. Duh!Duh!Duh!
1 side done.
Ta-Da!  With some of the readers & my summer assistant.

A View From My World #I-have-no-idea

Where has time gone?  I was supposed to get a picture of stars up a couple weeks ago, but was not able to get any good ones with a point and shoot camera.  Then I forgot all about this blog.  So I looked through the photos I have taken recently and found a nice one that reminds me of a quality of Christians (at least what they should be).  We are lights in the darkness ... shining the way to the Saviour.

Matthew 5:14 (NKJV)

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden."
(As an aside... do you see the dancing flame people?)
And here is a song that ties right in with with this verse... a challenge to be a light to our dark and fallen world.

We Are by Kari Jobe

Every secret, every shame
Every fear, every pain
Live inside the dark
But that's not who we are
We are children of the day

So wake up sleeper, lift your head
We were meant for more than this
Fight the shadows conquer death
Make the most of the time we have left

Chorus:
We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine

We are called to the spread the news
Tell the world the simple truth
Jesus came to save, there's freedom in His Name
So let His love break through
